Getting the Most Out of Your Time Online - Windows 98/NT
Your dialup account at Bizgrok Inc. allows one hundred-fifty (150) hours of connect time per month. It's a good idea to track your time online, so you will know if you are getting close to exceeding 150 hours. You may want to make these changes to your setup.:
- On your desktop screen, Double-click on My Computer.
- Click on Control Panel in the next window.
- At this new window, Double-click Internet or Internet Options.
- On the top bar of the new window, Click the CONNECTION tab.
- Then, Click Settings.
- Check the box, near the bottom, that reads "Disconnect if idle for __ minutes"
- Type in 20 in the blank field above. (Twenty minutes is generally used by as a default time, but you can choose the number of minutes you wish.)
Set Idle Time for Dialup Connection - Windows XP
- Go to Control Panel and open it.
- Double-click Network Connections.
- Select your modem and right-click.
- From the menu, select Properties, then Options.
- Look for, "Idle time before hanging up."
- Click the arrows to set the appropriate time.
Keeping Track of Usage
The standard 150 hours per month, roughly equals about 5 hours a day online. If you are a heavy Internet user, your account may be upgraded for additonal hours. Business owners may wish to consider more advanced options for connecting their LAN to the Internet.
